FAQs
- Are sessions offered year round?
Yes, sessions are offered year round! It is always a great time of year to join a session and play some water polo! Please find the current schedule here: Current and Upcoming Sessions.
- Can I try a practice for free?
Absolutely! Please reach out and let us know you’re interested in coming to a practice and trying out water polo. To get started, please email: [email protected].
- If I miss the session start date, do I have to wait until the next session?
No! We welcome players year round whether it is the beginning, middle, or end of a session. Ideally, we would love for players to start at the beginning of the session so that they can gain as much information and skill as possible from the start, but we are also happy to have a player join when he is ready and able and we will get him immediately in the mix and playing water polo.
- Do I have to be a USA Water Polo Member?
For Practices:
If practices are being held at a YMCA location, no USA Water Polo Membership is required. However, if practices need to be moved to Idaho Central Aquatic Center (ICAC), USA Water Polo Membership would be required to participate in practices. We will notify all players/parents if a USA Water Polo Membership is needed for practices.
For Tournaments:
Most tournaments not held at a YMCA location will require players to have a USA Water Polo Membership. We will notify all players/parents if a USA Water Polo Membership is needed for a tournament.
USA Water Polo Membership information can be found here: USA Water Polo Membership. At minimum, a Bronze level membership is required when a USA Water Polo Membership is needed.
- What if I’ve never played water polo before?
Then, there’s never been a better time to start playing water polo! Youth, High School, and Masters level water polo takes place in deep water where the pool bottom cannot be touched. We welcome all who can safely swim 25 yards of freestyle. Treasure Valley Water Polo is passionate about teaching water polo and provides instruction at a beginner level all the way through an experienced level.
Additionally, if a young player would like to play water polo while also being able to touch the bottom of the pool, Splashball is a great option!
- How old do I have to be to play water polo?
Our Splashball program starts with players as young as 6 years old!
We offer water polo for these different age groups:
Splashball: 6-10 years old
Youth: 10-14 years old
High School: 14-18 years old
